Stories that Matter

‘Inspiraction’ stories- stories that inspire action! Inspiring stories from practitioners of heart, mind, action show us how they generate results and contribute to transforming the world from where they live and work. They are contemporary pioneers, unifying architects, and mindful pro-activists-all at once!

You are likely to see yourself in their stories. And as you read their stories, you are likely to see the threads that weave all of us together in an interdependent fabric of humanity—see our universal values of dignity, equity, compassion transforming unworkable situations; and resonate with our intrinsic yearning for radical evolution. It is reassuring and energizing to know that there are so many people committed to making dignity and equity a reality for a thriving humanity and planet.

The world as we know is not working for humanity, nor for our planet. To begin with, we must recreate our context. We need to rewrite our cultural stories and rethink the assumptions we collectively hold that form the foundation of our social norms.

What myths keep our stories unexamined and maintain the status quo? How can we reverse inequity in a world of abundance that is socially rooted in separation and exclusion, with economic and financial systems that benefit only a few? How do we see and seize the opportunities presenting themselves in seemingly chaotic situations? What are the features of the unique radical response which can have positive impact in the changing and complex world of today?

These ‘Inspiaction Stories’ further peace, prosperity and planet. They reveal the power of Better People, Better Design and Better Planet. They emphasise conscious full-spectrum approaches, instead of narratives reflecting partial responses and inspire us anchored in dignity, equity, compassion and courage. These new and exciting narratives challenge and transform existing systems and norms as we solve problems; but these connections and shifts are often implicit. Making them explicit generates new societal conversations, influences our policies, strategies and our politics.

We need to distinguish the ways in which stories are currently told from narratives that generate paradigm shifts. Too often, we write about what we see ‘directly’, but without seeing the related patterns, and we miss opportunities to generate transformative actions. Having deeper conversations with people, inquiring about what they are doing (outputs) and connecting their actions to outcomes and impact, the changes they are making through their actions– stimulates people to see their contribution to the big picture. It is exciting to see people connecting the dots, and realizing the difference they are making. Deepening the inquiry focuses on what really matters to people— the outcomes and impacts they want to accomplish in their lives—and is empowering.
